BABIS - A GREEK IN CARBONIA
Carbonia is a small town in Sardenia, on the west coast of Italy. Babis is Greek - the only Greek who lives and works there. He was born in Northern Greece, and moved to Italy to study. He decided to get married and settle down in Carbonia. He owns a shop with computer peripherals, and is a quite successful businessman. He has two children, Giannis and Ilias, who speak Greek - although there isn't a Greek school in the area.
Babis is the living proof of the restless Greek spirit and of entrepreneurship. This is precisely the subject of a two-year European Erasmus+ program in which the 1st EPA.L. of Karditsa is participating, having the role of coordinator. The third meeting of the participating partner countries took place in Sardenia, from the 28th September until the 1st October. The title of the program is "Open Educational Ways addressed to Entrepreneurship through Skills Enhancement and Development'. The participating countries are: Greece, Italy, Germany, Poland, Portugal and Romania. The aim of the program is to conduct research regarding the teaching of entrepreneurship to schools of Europe, as well as to evaluate its quality. The next phase will involve the creation of Guide for students and teachers, with activities that could introduce the notion of entrepreneurship and encourage its application in class. The teachers who represented the 1st EPA.L. were the Director Mr Pappas Sokratis and Mrs Giannakoudi Aikaterini.
As entrepreneurship is a necessity nowadays, this program hopes to offer the school and the local community the chance to familiarize itself with the idea and promote it. Besides, if Babis managed to become a successful businessman in a foreign country, then surely can Greek students succeed in their own country.
