PROBLEM DESCRIPTION

According to the "Eurydice" network there are no National / Regional strategies and initiatives for integrating entrepreneurship education into vocational training (ISCED 1-3), 2011/2012. Furthermore, according to the European Committee report on Entrepreneurship in vocational education and training of 2009, even though entrepreneurship is included in the national curriculum of several countries, most of them support the notion that the current situation is not satisfactory, and that there is an important discontinuity which has to be covered. This is due to the low number of schools and students participating and to the ineffective methods used.

IDENTIFIED ROOT CAUSES

  • Ineffective teaching methods
  • Entrepreneurship is not included in every level of vocational education
  • Student participation is limited
  • Teachers are not sufficiently trained
  • Entrepreneurship is mainly taught on a theoretical level
  • Entrepreneurship is not related to specific educational objects or professions

PROPOSED SOLUTION

A. Creation of a handbook for teachers concerning entrepreneurship in vocational education and training, the role of the mentor-teacher and suggested methodologies and tools.

B. Creation of a website which will support the promotion and dissemination of the project’s results.

C. Creation of an e-learning platform where structured lessons for entrepreneurship can be found, and where there will be evaluation of teachers’ and students’ training.

D. Creation of at least two complementary webinars, showing and analyzing tips on entrepreneurship.

E. Creation of videos by every partner where the forthcoming projects will be presented.

F. Creation of a students’ guide containing issues of entrepreneurship and the relevant national and international terminology and presentation of the best students’ business ideas that have been realized.

G. Teachers’ in-service training on ways of encouraging and motivating students with relation to entrepreneurship.

H. Teachers’ in-service training on entrepreneurship issues.

I. Teachers’ participation in seminars concerning the development of youth entrepreneurship.

J. Visits to chambers, business unions, centres for entrepreneurship support, incubators of entrepreneurship.

K. Students’ and teachers’ visits to at least one startup weekend.

L. Student exchanges among the partner countries and lessons on entrepreneurship which will be taking place at the partners’ schools.’

M. Organizing a contest for the best business group idea (the groups will be formed by students of different nationalities, coming from the partner countries).

N. Organizing a contest for the best group project.

O. All actions will take place within the spirit of startup weekends, the difference being that they will have longer duration and the mentor’s role will be played by people from the job market.

P. Apart from partner co-operation and the use of open-source tools, students and teachers of all specializations will try to create an online game which will render the students’ practical training more attractive (gamification).
